Q
My lawn has been in poor health for quite some time now which has left me clueless as to what is wrong with it. I eventually found I have Black Beetles in my lawn, what is the best way to control Black Beetles to bring my lawn back to health?
A
Black Lawn Beetles are often held responsible for causing all sorts of damage to our lawns. While Lawn Beetles can indeed cause a lot of damage to a home lawn, this is very rare as the lawn would need to be infested with massive numbers of Beetles before such damage could ever occur.
The truth is that Lawn Beetles most usually live in our lawns in small numbers. Yes they can cause damage to the lawn, but this is only ever minimal, and only ever in the active growing season for the lawn, so the minimal damage is most usually repaired before ever being noticed. And when Black Beetles do exist in our lawns in these same small numbers, they can actually be quite beneficial for the turf as they naturally aerate the soil beneath the lawn.
However, if Lawn Beetles are in plague proportions in your lawn, then this is easily managed by a treatment of Lawn Beetle and Grub Killer, which is an inexpensive control pesticide which is applied to the lawn and then lightly watered into the soil.
My thoughts are that your lawn problems do not lay with Black Beetles, but may be attributable to other factors. Check the severity of the beetle infestation, and if it's only small then I would worry no more along these lines, and instead look to other causes of your lawn problems.
