Q

I get a lot of birds on my lawn, they seem to be making a mess of the grass, is there anything I can do to stop the birds from feeding on my lawn?

A

If you're getting a lot of bird activity on your lawn… well there must be a reason why, so lets try getting rid of the reason, and the birds should be on their way.

Birds will usually come to a lawn en-masse if there is a food source on the lawn for them.

This food source may be seeds from a seeding lawn, seed from having too many weeds, or lawn pests such as lawn grubs, caterpillars or ants. Some birds even love to pull the corms of some weeds out of the ground.

So the treatment for birds on the lawn, would be to get rid of the cause.

Try to determine the food source for the birds and remove it. Treat grubs, caterpillars or weeds if necessary and the birds will eventually disappear.

The good news is that the birds are actually a very good warning sign of underlying lawn problems which need to be rectified.
